Dr. Wang Kefei spoke on “Translation and the Subjects for Translation Studies” on March 24th, as part of Jinan University’s 110th-anniversary Lecture Series.
Wang’s major research interests are linguistics and translation theory. He has carriedout more than 10 national and provincial research programs, published more than 120 papers, books on corpus establishment, translation studies and foreign language teaching. He now advises PhD and post-doctoral candidates in such research fields. His many contributions to academic research and dissertation supervision have brought him a variety of awards.
After receiving his PhD from Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) in 1993, Wangbegan working there and became a professor in 1997. He has served as chief editor of school’s journal Foreign Language Teaching and Research since 1999, a full-time research fellow ofthe National Center for Foreign Language Education, one of the Key Research Centers of Humanities and Social Sciences of Ministry of Education; and deputy directorof the Xu Guozhang Senior Research Centre for Language and Linguistics. At the same time he is a BFSU chair professor, a member of the Academic Committee andacademic leader of the university’s doctoral program in translation studies andnational key discipline — English literature and language.
In addition to his work in BFSU, Wang is a member of several discipline review panels in China, including the National Social Science Fund. Universities and research institutions at home and abroad have invited him to give lectures and conduct research over 30 times, among them the Ministry of Education, Culture,Sports, Science and Technology in Japan; Lancaster University in the United Kingdom; and Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan.
