Yi-Min Xie Appointed Honorary Professor at Jinan

Yi-Min Xie, distinguished professor of The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and fellow of Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (AATSE), accepted an honorary professorship at Jinan University on Aug. 22.


Xie is one of the world’s leading experts in structural optimization and inventors of Evolutionary Structural Optimization (ESO). In 1992 he put forward the ESO method with Grant Steven, exerting significant influence in the field. Ten years later, he became an RMIT tenured professor and the head of the civil engineering department. In 2011 he was elected a fellow of AATSE. He is currently the director of the Center for Innovative Structures and Materials and co-director of the JNU-RMIT Joint Lab of 3D Metal Printing Technology and Novel Structures.
